πŸ“Š Gantt Widget

The Gantt Widget gives you a timeline view of your work so you can see how tasks, events, deliverables, and jobs relate to each other over time. It’s especially useful for planning projects, tracking progress, and adjusting schedules as things change.

What Is the Gantt Widget?

The Gantt Widget shows your work laid out on a timeline instead of a calendar. Each item appears as a bar (or marker) that stretches across the dates it covers.

You can use it to:

  • See what’s happening now and what’s coming up next
  • Understand how work overlaps
  • Adjust schedules by dragging items
  • Track progress across an entire project

What You’ll See

The Gantt Widget is split into two main areas:

Left Panel – Item List

  • Shows a list of all items in the timeline
  • Includes different types such as:
    • Events
    • Tasks
    • Deliverables
    • Jobs
  • Clicking an item highlights it on the timeline

Right Panel – Timeline

  • Displays items as bars or markers across time
  • Shows how long each item lasts
  • Makes it easy to see overlaps and gaps

Changing the Timeline View

You can switch between different time views:

  • Day – Detailed view for a single day
  • Week – Most common view for planning and coordination
  • Month – High-level overview for long-term planning

Changing the view automatically adjusts how the timeline is displayed.

Moving Around in Time

Use the navigation controls to move through the schedule:

  • Prev / Next – Move backward or forward in time
  • Today – Jump back to the current date
  • Date Selector – Jump directly to a specific date

Creating New Items

From the Gantt Widget, you can create new items such as:

  • Events
  • Tasks
  • Deliverables
  • Jobs

Use the New buttons or menu to select what you want to add. Once created, the item will immediately appear in the timeline.

Moving Items on the Timeline

You can adjust schedules directly on the chart:

Move an Item

  • Click and drag an item left or right
  • This changes the start and end date
  • Changes are saved automatically

Change Duration

  • Drag the left or right edge of an item
  • This shortens or lengthens the item
  • Useful when work takes more or less time than expected

Understanding Milestones

Some items appear as a single marker instead of a bar. These represent milestones β€” important dates with no duration, such as:

  • Submittals
  • Deadlines
  • Reviews

Filtering What You See

You can control what appears on the timeline by filtering item types.

For example:

  • Show only Tasks and Deliverables
  • Hide Events temporarily
  • Focus on Jobs only

Filters update the timeline instantly without removing any data.

Linking Work Together

The Gantt Widget can show relationships between items (for example, one task needing to finish before another starts).

These connections help you:

  • Understand sequencing
  • Spot scheduling conflicts
  • Adjust plans more confidently

Opening Item Details

Clicking an item opens its details. From there, you may be able to:

  • Edit information
  • Update status
  • View related project data

Tips for Best Use

  • Use Week view for day-to-day planning
  • Use Month view for project overviews
  • Keep item names short so they’re easy to read
  • Adjust schedules directly on the chart instead of editing dates manually

Good to Know

  • Changes save automatically
  • The timeline updates in real time
  • You can mix different item types in the same view
  • The Gantt Widget works alongside calendars and task lists

Summary

The Gantt Widget gives you a clear, visual way to plan, track, and adjust work over time. It’s ideal for managing complex projects where timing, dependencies, and progress all matter.

Use it to stay organized, anticipate conflicts, and keep projects moving forward.
