🚚 Dispatch Widget

The Dispatch Widget is a scheduling and assignment tool used to plan work across people, crews, or equipment. It brings together scheduling, job assignment, and location awareness into one workspace.

This widget is designed for day-to-day operational planning.

What Is the Dispatch Widget?

The Dispatch Widget lets you:

  • Assign jobs to resources (people, crews, or equipment)
  • Schedule work visually on a timeline
  • Move and adjust bookings by dragging
  • See unassigned jobs waiting to be scheduled
  • View job locations on a map while dispatching

It combines timeline scheduling, job lists, and mapping into one coordinated view.

Main Layout

The Dispatch Widget is divided into three main areas:

1. Resource Timeline (Left)

A time-based schedule showing assigned work.

  • Each row represents a resource
  • Each bar represents a scheduled booking
  • Time runs left to right

2. Unassigned Jobs Panel (Right)

A list of jobs that have not yet been scheduled.

  • Jobs are grouped by due date
  • Jobs can be selected, dragged, or edited
  • This is your β€œto be scheduled” list

3. Map Panel (Top Right)

A live map showing job locations.

  • Helps visualize where work is located
  • Clicking a job on the map selects it
  • Hovering highlights jobs in the list

Changing the View

At the top of the timeline you can change how time is displayed:

  • Day View – Detailed scheduling by hour
  • Week View – Broader planning view
  • Month View – High-level overview

You can also jump through time using:

  • β—€ Previous
  • Today
  • β–Ά Next
  • Date picker

Understanding the Timeline

Each bar on the timeline represents a booking.

Colors

Colors indicate booking status, such as:

  • Tentative
  • Confirmed
  • In progress
  • Completed

Bar Labels

You can choose what text appears inside each bar, such as:

  • Job title
  • Project name
  • Project number
  • Project manager

This can be changed using the Bar Text selector.

Assigning a Job (Primary Workflow)

There are two main ways to assign work.

Option 1: Drag-and-Drop Assignment

  1. Find a job in the Unassigned Jobs list
  2. Click and drag the job
  3. Drop it onto a resource row on the timeline
  4. The system automatically creates a booking

The time and resource are set based on where you drop it.

Option 2: Select β†’ Assign

  1. Click a job in the Unassigned Jobs list
  2. Click a resource row on the timeline
  3. Set the time range
  4. Confirm the assignment

Moving or Rescheduling Work

You can adjust bookings directly on the timeline.

Move a Booking

  • Click and drag the bar left or right
  • This changes the scheduled time

Change Duration

  • Drag the left or right edge of the bar
  • This shortens or extends the booking

Change Assigned Resource

  • Drag the bar up or down to another resource row

All changes save automatically.

Time Snapping (What to Expect)

When dragging:

  • Day view snaps to short time blocks
  • Week view snaps to larger time blocks
  • Month view snaps by day

This keeps schedules clean and consistent.

Opening Job or Booking Details

  • Click a booking on the timeline to open its details
  • Click a job in the unassigned list to edit it
  • Double-clicking opens full detail views

From there, you can:

  • Edit job information
  • Update booking details
  • Adjust status

Using the Map

The map helps with spatial awareness:

  • Shows job locations
  • Clicking a map feature selects the job
  • Hovering highlights jobs across panels
  • Useful for routing and geographic planning

Managing the Unassigned Jobs List

Grouping

Jobs are grouped by due date:

  • Today
  • Future dates
  • No due date

You can:

  • Expand or collapse groups
  • See how many jobs are in each group

Deleting Jobs

Jobs can be deleted directly from the list.

⚠️ Deleting a job permanently removes it and any associated bookings.

Resizing Panels

The Dispatch Widget is fully adjustable:

  • Drag dividers to resize:
    • Resource list width
    • Unassigned jobs panel width
    • Map height

Your layout preferences are remembered.

Tips for Best Use

  • Start by scheduling high-priority jobs first
  • Use the map to avoid inefficient routing
  • Keep Day view open during active dispatching
  • Use Week view for planning ahead
  • Adjust bar labels to show the info you care about most

Good to Know

  • All changes save automatically
  • Multiple users see updates in near real-time
  • You can’t β€œlose” a job β€” unassigned jobs always stay visible
  • The Dispatch Widget works best alongside Calendar and Deliverables widgets

Whether you’re scheduling one crew or coordinating dozens of jobs, this widget keeps everything aligned.
